DVLA's Century Of Sales.
FOR THE FULL AND UP TO DATE LIST OF UK AUCTIONS VISIT THE FREE NEWSLETTER AT: http://www.uk-government-auctions.co.uk/template.html
One hundred will be the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency’s (DVLA) special number this April when it celebrates a century of auctions of its valuable personalised registrations at Leicestershire’s prestigious Stapleford Park Country House Hotel. This spectacular event over three days will include 1200 highly distinctive vehicle marks.
Top of the list will be ‘51 NGH’ and ‘1 OO’ both of which have reserve prices of £10,000. Other notable marks include; RU55 ELL, MR51 NGH, DR51 NGH, 6 PAC, OK54 LLY and 500 GP.
DVLA began selling personalised registrations in December 1989 with an auction of just 74 marks held at Christies of South Kensington, at which the registration ‘1 A’ sold for over £200,000 creating a record for the price paid for a vehicle registration which stood until 1993 when K1 NGS eclipsed it selling for £231,000.
There are six DVLA Personalised Registrations auctions a year and winning bids often start from as low as £250 with the average purchase price across all previous 99 auctions standing at £3,500.
Stephen Ladyman, the Minister of State for the Department for Transport is an ardent supporter of DVLA’s Personalised Registrations business. Commenting on the 100th DVLA auction he said: "This is a notable milestone for everyone at DVLA and these highly professional auctions are now a must for motoring enthusiasts who want that ultimate of motoring accessories. The choice of registrations that is open to would-be bidders is huge and the income from the sale of these Government assets benefits all taxpayers of this country."
Damian Lawson, DVLA auction manager commented: "We have chosen Stapleford Park as our 100th auction venue to match the quality of marks we are offering for sale. As well as making available many highly distinctive marks we have also ensured there is something for everybody.
"There is no longer a stereotypical buyer of personal plates. Road hauliers are very enthusiastic about them as are emergency vehicle breakdown companies, motor sport teams and vehicle manufacturers. Small businesses and traders such as vets, doctors, plumbers, DJs and even fish and chip shop owners use them to promote their trade. Private customers however remain the main purchasers and the appeal of having a personalised registration continues to grow."
The DVLA Personalised Registrations 100th Auction will be held from 20th to 22nd April at Stapleford Park Country House Hotel, near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. Full details, including the complete list of marks available, their reserve prices and how to bid.

Closing on 27 April 2006, the auction includes 20 narrow workboats, 14 tugs, five grab dredgers, four pilot launches, three narrowboats, a weed cutter, a number of hoppers and other miscellaneous vessels.
Henry Butcher International Ltd has been appointed to handle the auction and the full auction lot is available to view online.
Inspection of the boats, located across British Waterways’ canals and rivers, is strictly by appointment between Tuesday 18 April and Friday 21 April 2006. Appointments should be made with the appropriate member of BW staff assigned to the vessel and whose details are available from the auction site.
Mark Duquemin, British Waterways’ project manager for the boat disposal, comments: "As part of our workboat fleet replacement programme we’ve taken the opportunity to assess our old fleet and auction off craft that are surplus to requirements. I hope that all of the boats will find a new home and will continue to be a day-to-day sight along our waterways."
The boats up for auction are currently subject to consultation with The Waterways Trust, the Historic Narrow Boat Owners Club, the Boat Museum Society and the Horse Boating Society. Boats found to have heritage interest may be withdrawn from the sale prior to the auction. Currently BW has identified 13 boats with heritage interest.
Mark Duquemin continues: "Where possible, boats with heritage value will be conserved and used by like minded organisations for the future promotion of the waterways. Those who can demonstrate this shared aim may include canal trusts, waterway related charities, museums and education programmes, but not private companies or individuals."
Organisations wishing to express an interest in any heritage boats withdrawn between now and the auction, and who have initial plans for their future use, should write to Ian White, Director of Technical Development, British Waterways, Fearns Wharf, Neptune Street, Leeds, LS9 8PB.

EBay Bans Cash Payments In Bid To Tackle Fraud.
Leading internet auction site eBay has banned cash transactions from its listings to help combat the growth of scam artists.
eBay has banned sellers from including cash-through-the-mail or electronic cash transfers via Western Union or similar companies.
UK police had previously encouraged eBay to ban electronic cash...
... payments via Western Union and other wire services to reduce the threat posed by con artists.
eBay will continue to allow items to be paid for using cheques, credit and debit cards, and its own PayPal electronic cash service – which requires recipients to have their own verified PayPal account.
Those listing items with cash payment options risk seeing their listings taken down by the company, although cash-on-delivery options are still allowed.
PayPal itself is targeted by phishers trying to steal the PayPal log-in and personal details of account holders via e-mails linked to fake PayPal sites.
eBay continually has to request the shutdown of servers hosting PayPal fraud scams.

Celebrity Design Race Silks For Charity Sale.
Jockey silks designed by celebrities including cricket hero Andrew Flintoff and celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay have been unveiled as the final preparations get under way for this year's Grand National.
Dozens of stars have created their own silks which will be auctioned online to raise money for Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool - the Grand National's official charity.
The world's most famous steeplechase takes place at Aintree racecourse, in Merseyside, on Saturday.
But racing begins at the course on Thursday with the start of the three-day festival.
Among the celebrity designs is a silk emblazoned with a speed camera created by Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson, and a green-baize number from snooker star Steve Davis in praise of his favourite food.
Harrods' owner Mohamed al Fayed has attached a portrait of himself to his silk and racing pundit John McCrirrick's offering features a pair of breasts in tribute to his wife Booby.
Yoko Ono has also given permission for a drawing by John Lennon to be featured on one of the silks.
Paul Petrie, a spokesman for bookmakers totesport which organised the celebrity auction, said: "We would like to thank all the celebrities that have contributed to the display and hopefully once they go up for auction it will help raise a lot of money for a worthwhile cause.
"The Grand National truly captures the nation's imagination and hopefully this campaign can do the same."
Jayne Hauxwell of the Imagine appeal at Alder Hey Hospital, said: "It's a fantastic way to raise funds and awareness for the largest children's hospital in Europe.
"Imagine aims to improve the quality of life for all children in hospital."
The jockey silks will be on display at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and World Museum Liverpool from April 7 until April 30.
The silks are also being auctioned at www.imagineappeal.com/totesport.asp

Fans of animated children's television characters were today being urged to snap up the remaining tickets to a dinner and auction of memorabilia in Manchester in aid of a charity for the blind.
Former Krypton Factor presenter Gordon Burns will host the National Library for the Blind's (NLB) "As Seen on TV" event at the Lowry Hotel on Thursday, April 6.
Children's television presenters Trevor and Simon will act as auctioneers and entertainment will be provided by X Factor finalists 2 To Go.
Lots due to go under the hammer include an original DangerMouse animation cel signed by animator Brian Cosgrove; a watercolour of Bagpuss painted by his creator Peter Firmin; and a limited-edition print featuring every Beano character and signed by the comic's current editor.
The funds raised by the event will go towards producing and stocking more books for visually impaired people.
Less than 5% of all books published in the UK every year ever make it into a format that blind and partially-sighted people can read, such as braille, audio or giant print.
Spokesperson for the library, Claire Briscoe, said: "We are delighted that so many celebrities and stars of children's television have agreed to help out, and we are sure it will be an evening to remember
"We have some truly unique pieces of artwork and we are looking forward to being able to auction them.
"As we do not receive any regular government funding we count on donations to enable us to continue providing our service to blind and partially sighted people across the UK."
The NLB houses Europe's largest collection of tactile books and music and offers a range of innovative electronic library information services via the website at www.nlb-online.org

An Enigma code making machine is up for sale on eBay. Current bids stand at €9,980 but the seller is hoping for a final price of €40,000.
The auction is due to end on 3 April.
The machine was made in 1941 but the serial numbers have been removed, making it impossible to tell who it was used by. It is in working order and comes with two spare rotors. More details here.
The machine is being sold by an "eBay shop" in Munich which uses the online auction house to sell items for customers. A spokesman at the shop told us the machine had been brought in by a customer who got it from his grandfather. He said there had already been a lot of interest in the machine.
An Enigma machine was stolen from Bletchley Park, home to UK code breakers during the Second World War, in 2000. It was eventually returned and a man imprisoned on related charges.
The machines were first made during the 1920s and were used commercially before becoming synonymous with the Nazis.

Famed UK auctioneer Bonhams is into reviving sales of Indian contemporary art with gusto. The art house is fielding 70-plus lots of Indian paintings at its April ’06 sale of Islamic and Indian art in London. The total estimated value of the auction is pegged at £1-1.5m.
Bonhams has also designed the first ever sale of a single Indian artist in May ’06. The auctioneer will place 40 paintings of FN Souza exclusively under the hammer. “We have 71 lots of Indian contemporary paintings at the April auction. There is one catalogue for Islamic and a separate one for Indian art, which includes contemporary paintings.
Just like other auction houses, Bonhams had auctioned Indian contemporary art from the mid-’90s till the late ’90s. Sales stopped because they were not faring well. “The market is far better now and Bonhams has relaunched Indian contemporary art auctions in London from ’04.
The number of lots is increasing every year,” Mehreen Rizvi Khursheed, a specialist of Indian and Pakistani art at Bonhams, told ET from London. In the April auction, Bonhams is fielding top artists, including FN Souza, Tyeb Mehta, Jamini Roy, AR Chugtai and J Swaminathan.
According to Ms Khursheed, on sale is an “immensely powerful” work by Souza, titled ‘Last Howl From The Cross’. “It’s a disturbing image of the crucified Christ, making a last agonised scream from the cross. The painting is set to make a world record price at the sale.
The picture, which has been in possession of a British family since 1964, is estimated to sell between £200,000 and £300,000. The ‘Last Howl’ shows a skeletal Christ with the teeth of a skull,” Ms Khursheed said. The auction also embraces a collection of Souza landscapes, which reflect estimates of £60,000-80,000, £30,000-50,000 and £20,000-30,000.
There are a couple of nudes too, ranging from £50,000-70,000 to £80,000-120,000. At the same time, an ‘emperor’ figure is estimated at £80,000-120,000. All the Souza works have come from private collections and many have not appeared in the market since the 1960s.
On tap are also Tyeb Mehta’s ‘Pink Nude’ pricedat £150,000-200,000, a Swaminathan with an estimate of £60,000-80,000 and a mix of Jamini Roy works from the collection of late Austin Coates. The 11 Roy works have seen estimates of £10,000-15,000 on the higher side and £1,500-2000 at the lower end.
The dedicated Souza sale in May will witness a variety of paperwork. These paintings will embrace watercolours, drawings and oils.

Maynards has all sorts of exotic antiques for sale in its two-day antique auction, starting tonight.
A rare Irish salver (serving tray) dating to 1736 has brought international interest from Ireland, the U.K. and the United States, and is expected to sell for $50,000 to $70,000.
A beautiful 19th-century Chilkat blanket by the great Fort Rupert artist Mary Ebbetts Hunt has a pre-auction estimate of $30,000 to $40,000.
But the most exotic -- and oddest -- item for sale must be an elm pile from the original medieval London Bridge, which burned in the Great Fire of London in 1666.
The listing for the pile, a tapered pole one metre high and 45 centimetres in diameter, which looks like a giant wooden tooth, says "it was driven in A.D. 1176 in centre #1 abutment of London Bridge."
How do they know? When it was lifted out of the muck in the River Thames in 1937, it was presented to B.C. legend H.R. MacMillan, founder of forest giant MacMillan Bloedel.
"When they were working on the new wharf in London Bridge, they found this in the mud," said Hugh Bulmer of Maynards. "Presumably MacMillan was supplying the timber for the new wharf, so it was a present."
MacMillan kept it in his office for years. When he died in 1976, it was sold in an estate sale by Maynards. The winning bid was $1,500, and the winning bidder was another B.C. legend, Robert Bonner, who went from being B.C. attorney-general under W.A.C. Bennett to CEO of MacMillan Bloedel and chair of B.C. Hydro.
Bonner died last year, so the London Bridge pile is for sale again. The estimate is $1,000 to $1,500, but Bulmer says it's anyone's guess what it will bring.
"We sold it once for $1,500, so there must have been more than one person who wanted it," he says.
"It's a conversation piece. You can imagine it in someone in the timber industry's office. It's a wonderful conversation opener for anyone who walks in."
It definitely caught the attention of some of the people previewing the auction -- which begins at 6 p.m. tonight -- although they had mixed opinions on its merit.
"Even if they gave it to me, I wouldn't take it," Jim McMaster said with a laugh. "We don't have enough room."
"No, it's phenomenal," said his wife Jacqueline. "It looks like a very decayed tooth or something. From a walrus, maybe."
The pile does look quite decayed.
"It's been pickled in London sewage for many generations," said Bulmer.
To the collector, this may add to its allure. It's probably a thousand years old, and looks it.
"It's a great historical piece," said rare book dealer Don Stewart of MacLeod's Books, who figures its provence makes it a natural for a forest company executive.
Bulmer said the 641 lots in the sale should bring in about $500,000.
There are 19th-century swords from Europe and Turkey (estimate $200), a collection of 17th- and 18th-century marrow scoops (est. $1,000 to $2,000) and a pair of red chairs from the investiture of the Prince of Wales at Carnarvon Castle in 1969 (est. $200 to $300).
One of the hottest items is an elegant 18th-century Italian commode made of kingwood with marquetry inlay and Sienna marble. Bulmer has fielded several calls from Europe about the piece.
"It comes from an estate in Maple Ridge," he said. "The Italians will be fighting over it. It is probably going to make $20,000 to $30,000."

Beauty's double contribution to charity auction By Leeds lovely Nell McAndrew is putting one of her hats under the hammer in aid of a vital national charity.
Model Nell, who recently announced she is expecting her first child, handed over two pieces of headgear to be auctioned off in aid of the charity DebRA.
Nell forged strong links with the charity, which helps people with the genetic skin condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), after meeting Jonny Kennedy.
Jonny reached the nation's hearts with his bravery when he appeared in the award-winning documentary The Boy Whose Skin Fell Off. Five million people tuned in to the Channel 4 documentary, screened two years ago. They were touched by Jonny's good humour, bravery and determination to live life to the full. The film charted Jonny's death as well as his life, as he passed away, aged 36, in 2003.
Nell, a DebRA vice-president, has donated a butterfly hat she wore when she first met Jonny, as well as a stunning Gabriela Ligenza hat.
Awareness The Belle Isle beauty said: "I promised my friend Jonny that I would continue to support DebRA whenever I could.
"The charity's Celebrity Mad Hatter eBay Auction is a great way to help raise awareness and funds for such a great cause, by simply bidding for your favourite hat.
"I have donated two hats, the pretty Philip Treacy one I wore when I first met Jonny and a very classy Gabriela Ligenza hat I wore at Ascot. Make sure you bid and support DebRA and keep Jonny's dream alive of finding a cure for EB." Other stars taking part in the auction include Sir David Jason, boxer Amir Khan, Ronnie Corbett, and Ewan McGregor.
The auction will be launched on Thursday, April 27 and will run until Sunday May 21. For more details, visit www.debra.org.uk and click on the mad hatter icon, or to bid visit www.ebay.co.uk on April 27.
On Friday, May 5 people are invited to join DebRA's Mad Hatter campaign by wearing a hat for the day and making a GBP1 donation to DebRA.
To take part in Mad Hatter Day, email madhatter@debra.org.uk or telephone 01344 771961.

Churchill's Popularity Never Fades.
It is just as well, all things considered, that David Cameron promptly gave up smoking as soon as he was elected the new, squeaky-clean Tory leader.
What with a 9p inflation-matching rise on a packet of 20 cigarettes in the Budget and the forthcoming legislation to make smoking in public places illegal, lighting up is clearly not the done thing in political circles nowadays.
It was ever thus. Next month, a half-smoked cigar discarded by Sir Winston Churchill is coming up for auction at Outhwaite and Litherland in Liverpool.
According to the auctioneers, Churchill was told that he could not smoke it at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, so stubbed it out and handed the butt to a special constable.
It might not sound like the most appealing item of historical memorabilia (although the prospect of preserving a strand of Churchillian DNA might appeal to cryogenicists) but the auctioneers have given it a "deliberately low" estimate of between £100 and £200.
Churchill memorabilia is a collector's paradise. Seemingly insignificant items, such as a letter apologising for not making a supper appointment and signed 'W' (offered by the American company History for Sale), can fetch £4,000. A pair of his monogrammed blue velvet slippers reached £6,325 at auction eight years ago.
Interest has remained strong, especially from America where Churchill items hold a special attraction. Auction houses have seen a doubling in value for Churchilliana in the past decade: in 1998, Sotheby's sold one of his side arms for more than £17,000.
A mere four years later, another of his revolvers came up for sale and fetched a staggering £32,000.
A complete set of Churchill books could, at a pinch, be bought for about £1,000 in 1990. Now, you would be hard pushed to see change from £3,000 - and that's not even for first editions.
On eBay last week a rare four-volume, first edition set of The Selected Essays of Sir Winston Churchill dating from 1976 attracted 16 bids and went for £746 - to an American purchaser.
The normal precautions apply: mint condition copies are far more valuable than dog-eared examples. It is also worth avoiding copies that have been leatherbound by the owner - books in their original state are always far more attractive to collectors.
The most valuable Churchill books are first editions of the vanity-published Brodrick's Army and For Free Trade: a 1899 copy of Brodrick was sold for £50,000.
And then there are the paintings. In 1998, Lord Harris of Peckham paid a record £150,000 at Christie's for Churchill's Mimizan, Landes - a view of the Duke of Westminster's house in the South of France. It had been bought in 1965 by an American collector for £9,500.
As for that cigar butt, we'll just have to wait and see: never will they have bid so much for so little.

How Lennon Sailed Yacht Safely Home And Found His Muse.

A ship's log depicting a remarkable voyage in which John Lennon steered a yacht to safety amid a tropical storm is to be auctioned next month.
The log is one of three lots which represent important moments in Lennon's life.
It is to be sold alongside a school exercise book in which he showed his first recorded interest in Lewis Carroll's The Walrus and the Carpenter poem, and a letter signed with fellow band members George Harrison and Ringo Starr marking their managerial split from Paul McCartney.
The 1980 sea voyage is especially significant because it marked an end of the former Beatle's 10-year writing block and led to his final solo album, Double Fantasy.
Lennon, whose father and grandfather were sailors, had always dreamed of making an Atlantic crossing.
When a visit to an oracle in South Africa suggested that the safest voyage would be in a south-westerly direction, Lennon decided to charter the 44ft schooner Megan Jaye and make for Bermuda.
Just hours after leaving Newport, Rhode Island, the vessel found itself in the middle of a ferocious tropical storm and, one by one, members of the crew fell ill.
When the final crew member, the ship's cook, also succumbed, Lennon lashed himself to the wheel and steered the vessel to safety.
Upon landing in Bermuda eight days later, on June 11, 1980, he described how he had regained his courage 15 minutes into the tempest and began reciting old sea-shanties recalled from his childhood. He likened the cathartic experience to performing on stage.
"At first you panic, and then you're ready to throw up your guts but once you get out there and start doing your stuff you forget your fears and you get high on your performance," he said.
Freed from his writer's block by the experience, he completed Double Fantasy just weeks before his murder in December 1980.
The log, on which Lennon wrote the words "Dear Megan, there is no place like no were" includes a doodle of him sporting a beard and is expected to fetch more than £20,000.
The auction also features a letter co-signed by Lennon, Harrison and Starr in which the three, seemingly fearful of McCartney's dominance in the band, formally reject management by the music lawyer Lee Eastman, the father of McCartney's wife, Linda.
Written in 1969, the single-page typed letter is expected to fetch more than £70,000. It states that Eastman was "… not authorised to act as the attorney [sic] or legal representative of The Beatles or of any of the companies which the Beatles own or control …"
The most personal item reveals that Lennon was artistically gifted at a young age.
The exercise book, which significantly is entitled My Anthology, was completed when Lennon was just 12 years old and contains 10 illustrations to poems - including The Walrus and the Carpenter.
"It reveals the inspiration behind the 1967 Beatles classic I am the Walrus,'' said Ted Owen, the director of acquisitions at Cooper Owen auction house.
The exercise book is expected to fetch between £100,000 and £150,000 at the auction, which is due to take place at Madame Tussaud's in central London on April 19.

Borg Decides Not To Sell Wimbledon Trophies.

Bjorn Borg has decided not to sell his five replica Wimbledon trophies and two rackets he used during his winning streak at the tournament.
Borg had said he was putting the items up for sale because he and his family needed long-term financial security.
"After great consideration and reasoning, I have decided that I will never sell my Wimbledon trophies and racquets and I have withdrawn them from sale," the Swede said in a statement on Monday.
"I now realise how closely connected they are to my success as Wimbledon's winner in 1976-80 and this revelation has caused me to reconsider my earlier intention to sell them."
The trophies and two of the racquets he used in that winning streak had been expected to fetch up to 300,000 pounds at Bonham's auction in London of sports memorabilia on June 21.
U.S. tennis star Andre Agassi had expressed interest in acquiring the trophies and racquets to keep them out of the "wrong hands."
"Trophies of this kind have a meaning that goes beyond my comprehension of the victories, as they emphasise the bond between me as a player and all the people, family, friends and fans that have stood behind me through the years -- people that have my love and respect," Borg said.
Dubbed "Ice Man" by the media for his emotionless performances on court, Borg raked in millions of dollars in prize money during his career before he retired in 1984 aged just 26.
But he could not repeat his on-court success in his fashion business ventures.
Bjorn Borg Design Group crashed in 1989 and he is being sued for 11 million crowns ($1.42 million) by former business associate designer Lars Modin. They case is due to come to court next month.
Borg still makes money from the branding of his name, most notably on a successful underwear line.

The Publican Launches Charity eBay Auctions.
We love freebies at The Publican. We're quite pathetically grateful when we get sent cases of beer, boxes of crisps, chocolate, tickets to major sporting events, trips to exotic destinations and similar goodies. PR companies take note.
However, some of the stuff we get sent in might be high-quality branded merchandise but, for one reason or another, it fails to find an owner.
So we've decided to starting flogging it on eBay, the auction website that appears to have been invented for the sole purpose of shifting unwanted presents. And we're going to donate the profits to a worthy cause - the Licensed Trade Charity.
To kick us off, we've got some stylish bits and pieces from our mates at Heineken, sponsors of the Champions League and, coincidentally enough, the Heineken Cup. The auction includes a floppy sun hat, a pack of playing cards, some cool sunglasses, a zip-up bottle holder and some ear-plugs (don't ask). Also included is a very rare, highly collectible, Proud Of Pubs/National Pubs Week beermat...
You can find the auction on ebay.co.uk by clicking on the link below, searching for our user name, thepublicansales, or by auction number 6265126417. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6265126417&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:UK:31
We'll be adding more auctions in the weeks to come, all in eBay's "breweriana" categories, and we'll keep you updated on the amount we've raised. Remember - bid early, bid often. Jolly exciting isn't it?

LONELY HEART HUNTS ELIGIBLE BIDDER.
A lovesick singleton from Kent has launched a unique new bid to land Mr Right by putting herself up for sale in a fundraising online auction.
In a posting on internet charity auction site 15minutesauction Hayley Williams, from Sevenoaks, has pledged to give her heart away to the most eligible bidder.
The proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Great Ormond Street Children's Charity.
The 36-year-old singleton said her ideal man would be an independent and caring bachelor who likes the outdoors and is prepared to get involved in charity work.
Ms Williams said: "I'm looking for a man who is single and around my age. Preferably he either has children or would like them. I also like animals and don't smoke - although it doesn't really bother me that much. I can be very spontaneous so he has, ideally, got to be the sort of man who can pick up and go with an idea.
She added: "Looks are important but not the most important quality. I'm not very tall so it would be great if he was over five feet seven inches."
The unusual auction has already attracted bids from across the UK.
A spokesman for 15minutesauction.com said: "This is quite an unusual item to place up for auction. But as it's going to a good cause and Hayley is an adult we wish her the best of luck in finding a partner."
The posting is sponsored by celebrity chef Gary Rhodes's restaurant, Rhodes W1, in the Cumberland Hotel, London.

UP TO SPEED: LEFTROVERS FOR SALE.
THIS would make an interesting day out if you're not doing anything tomorrow.
The administrator in charge of disposing of MG Rover assets is holding an auction to sell off old stock from MG Sport & Racing Ltd - the high performance arm of the defunct car company.
All sorts of tantalising stuff is going under the hammer. One item that would look good in the garage is the MG ZT estate that managed to do 227mph at the Bonneville salt flats in America.
It's got a huge V8 under its bonnet that must sound fantastic. It's an utterly useless car, but so what? It looks the business. There's also one of the few expensive MG SV supercars the firm got round to building.
But there's lots of smaller stuff for sale - boxes of MG Sport T-shirts, baseball caps and other promotional goodies.
For the techies there are dozens of engine bits and boxes of brake pads and discs. There are also lots of tools for sale, which would raise the pulses of men in sheds all over the country.
The auction is being run by Wyles-Hardy at Groveley Lane, Birmingham B31 4PT and will start at 9.30am.

Restaurants are embracing the eBay revolution by offering customers the chance to bid online for meals from only 1p.
The novel idea has been cooked up by Sukhvir Dhillon, 30, a Glasgow entrepreneur, with the backing of Alan Tomkins, the former chairman of the Glasgow Restaurateurs' Association.
In what is believed to be the first website of its kind in the world, www.priceyourmeal.com has recruited an eclectic mix of more than 50 of Glasgow's top restaurants – including Rococo, Red Onion, Paperino's and
Kama Sutra – to allow customers to bid online to buy meals at the lowest possible price.
The website goes live today and if it is successful Mr Dhillon, who worked with his uncle Charan Gill in his Harlequin chain for five years as director of operations, intends to roll it out across the UK.
Mr Dhillon, who was born and bred in the city's west end and lives there with his wife and child, said: "I got the idea of bidding for meals from eBay where I've bought and sold lots of items over the years.
"Priceyourmeal.com is based on the same principle but simply applies it to matching diners with restaurants.
"I've spent the past year writing most of the software, testing it, then going round restaurants persuading them to let customers bid for meals."
Mr Tomkins said:"I subscribed for a small share in Sukhvir's business because I could see its potential not only here in Glasgow, but right across the world."
